Don’t dab off red-hot dab nails, it hurts! Some say “you gotta waste it to taste it”, meaning that if you do low temperature dabs, the flavor will taste much better, and it’ll be a lot smoother. Different consistencies of concentrate have different optimum temperature ranges. Thin hash oil may require lower temperatures than a thick piece of shatter. Higher temperatures can also convert more cannabinoids to CBN which may cause sedation or drowsiness.
Dabbing has caught undeserved flak from many people because let’s face it, if you’re using a torch to heat your nail, it has the appearance that it’s a hard drug. The truth of the matter though, is that some cannabis concentrates are actually safer and better for you than smoking herb.
With concentrates, the recommended serving size is about the size of a grain of rice; which would be roughly the same as smoking about a 1/4 – 1/2 gram of weed. Vaporizing concentrates also has lower temperature requirements than combusting plant matter, this means that the gas you inhale will be much smoother and with less carcinogens (unless you dab off a red hot nail, those are some rough hits).
