Dabbing refers to a popular method used to consume concentrated cannabis. With the help of a dab rig, you’ll heat the concentrate and breathe in the vapor. The concentrate options vary and often include types made with or without solvents. No matter what process is used, the goal is to separate the essential parts, like the cannabinoids, from the other parts of the cannabis plant. A concentrate’s potency will depend on the strain and type, but many will have THC levels of 60% to 80%.
To dab, you’ll typically need a traditional or electronic rig. With a traditional rig, you’ll have a torch to heat the quartz banger. After a cooling period, you drop in a “dab” of concentrate before inhaling the vapor through the water pipe. An electronic rig or e-rig takes the guesswork out of controlling the temperature. You can set for high or low temperatures, depending on your personal preferences.
What is 710?
710 and Dab Day took off around the early 2010s, thanks in part to the rapper Taskrok. He suggested additional holidays that honor cannabis and released rap songs that promoted 710 to spread the word about it. An “LA Weekly” piece also brought mainstream attention to the holiday. The 710 date was chosen for the concentrate holiday because it spells oil upside down.

- Sugars: Sugars use solvents in processing and rely on butane or propane to remove the cannabinoids. Sugars have a semi-solid appearance, and crystals will appear in the formulation.
- Live rosins: These concentrates come from fresh flower that are flash-frozen to lock in flavors and terpenes. Live resins don’t use solvents to separate the cannabinoids.
- Hashes: Hash is created through ice-water extraction and has a powdery texture.
